Capital Demand in India

Indian growth is expected to be a primary driver of global growth over the next several decades, and private equity investors are clamoring to capture this momentum. In 2009, private capital giant KKR revealed its ambitions in the region with the hiring of Sanjay Nayar, the CEO of Citi’s South Asian operations. In an exclusive conversation with Privcap, Nayar discusses the impact that the global financial crisis has had on the private equity opportunity in India, the sources of KKR’s deal flow in the country, and the view that Indian business leaders and entrepreneurs have toward private equity. Nayar also presents his thesis for why India will eventually find itself short of investment capital and in need of the capital and expertise of firms like KKR.
