Sheryl Schwartz

Ms. Schwartz is Managing Director, Investments. She serves as Caspian’s lead investment professional for primary and secondary fund investments and is a member of its Investment and Executive Committees. Ms. Schwartz joined Caspian in June 2013. Prior to joining Caspian, Ms. Schwartz was a Managing Director at Perseus Finance in New York from June 2010 to April 2013, where she was one of the partners responsible for fundraising, sourcing, evaluating and making direct mezzanine and structured equity investments in connection with leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations and growth financings in lower middle market companies. Prior to Perseus Finance, Ms. Schwartz had a longstanding career at Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA-CREF) from 1988 to 2010, where she spent approximately half of her time investing in alternative investments and half investing in fixed income investments. From 1997 to 2010, she was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of TIAA-CREF’s Alternative Investment team. As such, she established TIAA-CREF as a significant investor in alternative investments with over $13 billion of initial commitments. As head and founder of the team, Ms. Schwartz built a diversified, global investment portfolio across an array of co-investments, mezzanine debt and funds including private equity, emerging markets, international, venture capital, distressed debt, equity turnaround, energy and infrastructure, leveraged buyouts and timber. In addition, helped create a comprehensive investment structure for the TIAA-CREF Alternative Investments team and evaluated and approved an investment program deploying $500 million to $1 billion per year in capital investment over ten years. She helped build TIAA-CREF’s reputation as a thought leader in alternative investing and contributed to its differentiated position in the institutional asset management industry. She is a regular speaker at industry conferences and is frequently quoted in many periodicals. Ms. Schwartz holds a BS in Finance and Management and a MBA in Finance from New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
