Phillip Marra

National Audit Leader, KPMG

Phil Marra is the National Audit Leader for KPMG’s US Building, Construction and Real Estate practice, as well as the Partner in Charge of the Northeast Real Estate Audit, Tax and Advisory practices. Phil Marra is based in New York and has over 25 years of sector experience in providing audit, accounting, due diligence, and advisory services to real estate office, retail, multifamily, finance, parking, development and hospitality clients. His experience covers a wide range of entities, including real estate funds, public REITs, sovereign wealth funds, private equity funds, government agencies, lenders, foreign investors, real estate advisors, asset managers and real estate management companies. Marra’s responsibilities have included supervision of large multi-location audit engagements, consultation on initial public offerings, review and evaluation of the management control environments of real estate companies, review and evaluation of real estate markets, advice on real estate fund formation, analysis and review of real estate appraisals, real estate workouts, due diligence on proposed acquisitions and general decision support for real estate transactions. Marra obtained a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Taxation from St. John’s University. He began his career with Arthur Andersen in 1987 in their Real Estate Accounting and Advisory Group in NY and joined KPMG’s Real Estate Practice in 2002. Marra is a frequent speaker on real estate related topics, including real estate fund formation, market trends, fair value reporting, international financial reporting standards for real estate companies, lease accounting, and the IPO process for REITS. He has also been involved in a number of industry associations such as PREA, NAREIT, AFIRE, ULI, NCREIF, ICSC and the NYSCPA’s Real Estate Committee.
