Former GSA Chief Exits Artemis
Dan Tangherlini, the former real estate chief of the U.S. federal government, has quit as chief operating officer of Artemis Real Estate, he exclusively tells PrivcapRE.
Tangherlini, who joined Artemis in March 2015, left the company last month, he says, to focus on the technology revolutionizing back office processes in commercial real estate and beyond.
“I was very interested in participating in the digital transformation sweeping over so many industries,” he says. “It is all about technology that is disrupting some very straightforward, but deeply inefficient, processes.” Tangherlini declined to name the venture he is joining, but says he will likely announce it next week.
Tangherlini spent more than 20 years in government, with three years as administrator of the General Services Administration, the body that manages real estate for the federal government. While at Artemis, Tangherlini was an advisor to tech start-ups including Seamless Docs, a next generation document and e-signature platform; Notarize.com, an online notary site; and Blue Planet, a carbon-capture and sequestration-technology company.
“Some of my work at Artemis was helping them upgrade their technology platform and they were already on the front end,” he says. “My year there opened my eyes and exposed me to how business processes work, how decisions are made and how investments are made. And what occurred to me was this tremendous opportunity to enhance those processes through technology.”
Artemis was unavailable for immediate comment.
