Phillip Barker
Senior Managing Director, CBRE
Philip Barker is a Senior Managing Director for CBRE’s real estate investment banking business, CBRE Capital Advisors, Inc. and leads the group’s activities for “Secondary” real estate opportunities in the Americas. CBRE’s secondary private equity real estate team, first established in the U.K, has successfully executed over US $5 billion in transactions since its inception in 2010, with dedicated focus now in the U.S.
Mr. Barker brings significant alternative investment experience to the team having previously led CBRE’s Real Estate Derivative’s team in the U.S. from 2006 to 2010, transacting over US $3 billion of notional value in both the commercial sector (NCREIF based) and the residential markets (RPX & Case-Shiller based).
Prior to joining CBRE Capital Advisors, Mr. Barker spent five years at ICAP PLC, a leading inter-dealer brokerage, where he was the global head of precious metals. Previously, he was the SVP-Head of inflation derivatives for Icap, successfully establishing the firm’s presence in this sophisticated market. Prior to this Mr. Barker was an SVP with the GFI Group, the inter-dealer broker, where he specialized in developing and leading new markets.
Over the course of his career in financial markets, Mr. Barker has held several senior trading and structuring roles for investment and commercial banks, including the Royal Bank of Canada, where he was the global head of sales and trading for precious metals, Merrill Lynch and Barclays Bank.
Mr. Barker has been a frequent speaker, panelist and presenter at many real estate industry events; including the PREA & NCREIF annual conferences; Institutional Real Estate’s VIP event, NAIOP, IPD and NYPEN.
Mr. Barker was the Founder and Co-Chair of RED-SIG, an industry alliance established to offer insight and perspective on the use and implementation of US commercial property derivative products, comprised of a distinguished advisory group of leading institutional investors, portfolio managers, index providers, academics, tax advisors, banks and brokers.
