David Hodes
Managing Partner, Hodes Weill & Associates
David R. Hodes is a Managing Partner of Hodes Weill & Associates. Previously, Mr. Hodes was a Managing Director of Credit Suisse, based in New York. Mr. Hodes joined Credit Suisse First Boston in November 2000 when the firm merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ).
Mr. Hodes co-founded Credit Suisse's Real Estate Private Fund Group (REPFG) in 2000 at DLJ. From 2000 through February 2009, Mr. Hodes co-led the business, with the responsibility for the strategic oversight and management of REPFG.
In early 2008, Mr. Hodes assumed the additional responsibility of co-managing Credit Suisse's Real Estate Investments Group (REIG), which includes the firm's real estate investment businesses within the Alternative Investment Group. As of March 2009, REIG had over 250 professionals and approximately $37 billion of assets under management in a range of core, opportunistic and securities (long and hedged) funds and separate accounts and a newly formed Customized Fund of Funds business.
Prior to joining DLJ, Mr. Hodes was a Principal of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter's real estate investment banking business and was the Director of Private Real Estate Capital Markets. Mr. Hodes was a member of the General Partner and the Investment Committee of the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds.
Before joining Morgan Stanley, Mr. Hodes was a Principal of The Yarmouth Group from 1985 through 1996, where he was also a Member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. The Yarmouth Group was an independent investment advisor that managed real estate portfolios on behalf of US, European and Asian institutions. He led business development at the firm during his tenure, especially the expansion of the firm's US institutional business, with assets under management growing from $600 million to over $5 billion. He was also instrumental in the sale of the business to Lend Lease Corporation in 1993.
Mr. Hodes received his BA from Brandeis University. He is a member of the Board of Overseers of the International Business School at Brandeis University. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA). He has been an active writer and speaker at real estate and institutional investment forums throughout his career.
